| Museum Collection and Showcases The museum collection was established at the dedication of the HERC on Kristallnacht, 1994. The largest artifact in the collection is a Czech Torah scroll which survived the Holocaust, was found, and placed with a cache of several hundred other Torahs in England. The acquisition of this Torah was endowed by Sam and Olga Rosen and by Robert and Barbara Ballot in memory of family members murdered by the Nazis. Two beautiful light-wood and glass cabinets were donated by Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Chazan at the dedication of the HERC in memory of family who perished in the Holocaust. These presently house some memorabilia and photos (including original photos taken at Liberation) which are on loan, and the Torah scroll. Two additional showcases were donated by Herb Barton in memory of his beloved wife, Shirley. The first artifact to be placed in these showcases was a mint set of currency from the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp (Terezin), which was printed as part of the ruse that life in this "model ghetto" was "normal," and that Jews were well treated by the Nazis. This set was donated by Michael and Sheila Cutler and Richard and Julie Rutta in memory of Jay Shaffer. |
