Initially, following the end of World War II, the Jewish Federation almost exclusively devoted its energies to fund-raising on behalf of Israel and assistance to victims of the Holocaust. As the years progressed, the Federation's role expanded to that of a community builder incorporating local Jewish communal organizations and a variety of social services.
